Messiah 2011_poster_sml02

Handel's MESSIAH

Messiah remains one of the most popular oratorios ever composed and Adoramus enjoyed performing it at Christmas as part of the Biblefresh initiative in celebration of 400 years of the King James Version of the Bible. The scriptural text was compiled by Charles Jennens, a devout Anglican and believer in scriptural authority, and is an extended reflection of Jesus Christ as Messiah; beginning with God's promises as spoken by the prophets and ending with Christ's glorification in Heaven.

It is believed by many that Handel wrote the music in a fervour of divine inspiration in which, as he wrote the 'Hallelujah' chorus, "he saw all heaven before him." At the end of his manuscript Handel wrote he letters 'SDG': Soli Deo Gloria, "To God alone the glory."

Music to Refresh the Soul

On two consecutive weekends, Adoramus worked closely with Churches Together in Cheshunt and Waltham Cross and then Enfield Baptist Church to put on very special events.

Neither concert nor service, Adoramus ministered to the audience/congregation through music. People had the opportunity to just sit and listen, participate with some of the hymns and choruses, to pray or simply to reflect.

Music on the Strand Concert

Adoramus was invited by the RAF Chaplain-in-Chief to hold our sumer concert at the beautiful RAF Church, St Clement Danes, in the Strand Central London.

In this inspiring setting the orchestra performed a variety of classical pieces including a concerto for 2 oboes in F by Albinoni and Boyce's Symphony No.5 in E. We were delighted to welcome Daniel de Fry who thrilled our audience with two solo harp pieces. The choir joined the orchestra to open and close the concert with a Telemann cantata and a sumptuous Mozart Mass.

BATTLE of BRITAIN

There are certain events in history where the future of the nations seems very delicately balanced with "the few" responsible for the destiny of the many. The Battle of Britain is one such event.

This very special concert commemorated the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The programme included Goodwin's Battle of Britain Suite, Elgar's Pomp & Circumstance March No.1, Alford's RAF March Past, Wood's Fantasia on British Sea Songs and John William's Hymn for the Fallen from the film Saving Private Ryan and the Beaumont School Vocal Ensemble contributed some wartime favourites. Adoramus was privileged to work with the Royal Air Force Chaplaincy and the concert was introduced by their Chaplain-in-Chief, the Venerable Ray Pentland QHC BA DipPS MTh, who drew parallels between aspects of the Battle of Britain and his faith.

The GLORY of EASTER

Adoramus was invited by Churches Across Watford to put on this programme of popular arias, choruses and orchestral classics which was last performed to a full house at the Alban Arena. We were joined by three local school choirs.

It was very well received by the audience with wonderful performances from the choir, orchestra and soloists. The highlight of the evening was when the Colosseum swelled with the sound of over 1000 voices singing Thine be the Glory in praise to God.

The following week Adoramus returned to the Alban Arena as part of the local churches' Passion for Live events to perform the same programme. Once again the audience packed the venue and thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
